    Earth, our Mother she is
    Glorious magic to see
    Her warmth provides all

There’s the best I got. LOL

With a hearty laugh the Earth shook her belly,
    sending seeds flying in the winds;
a memory of virginal virtue cast off in Eden
in favor of the raw, bodily pleasures
of abundance and pain and dancing and love.
A widening of Her generous thighs
floods the soils with rich fluids
and spring erupts in lush growth once more,
A promise of ripe fruit and medicine and soft places to lie as lovers in warm times
    to come.

    Valentine (for Mother Earth)

    No noisy glassed bouquets today,

    no floral notes,

instead, a softening in the breeze

that whines, less bite than bark,

    and through the pane

    the tiny signs of buds

    upon the Cottonwood

release the promises to me and thee,

    oh my relation, standing friend

    upon your withered roots.

    Each year more branches shatter;

    fewer bloom with thirsty palms

that turn in supplication to the sky

    for water, water, water.

All your kith and kin have gone

before you, withered by the drought

and cut and stacked and hauled,

but I have heard the flickers

    feeding in your crevices and

    choral flocks of redwings singing

    in your blackened branches

    to the rising sun.

    Neighbors may complain, but I

will not repent- I would not break

the promise in these tiny buds

our Mother’s heart has made us:

    One more year.

    *prompted by the dedication:

Happy ♥ day to all my relations:

the two leg family & friend people,

the 4 leg furry people, the flying wings people,

the rooted standing branches leaves & petals people,

the slippery swimming people, the tiny creeping people,

    all my relations. ♥
